Log home "kits" are simply the packages of logs and other materials sold by log home companies as we do.

Unfortunately, not all kits are created equal, which makes it difficult to compare kits from different companies.

Let's first take a look at what the typical contents of a kit might be.

The most basic log home kit would contain logs already cut and machined for a specific house plan.  Some may need corner details machining on site some may not some may be predrilled some may not.

Each log will have a predetermined location in the wall of the house. Door and window opening are cut into the appropriate logs some will supply window “Bucks” or openings pre made to be located in these openings some may not .

Some log home companies who advertise very low prices may only be providing a basic log kit, made with lower grade log,

However,most log home companies offer a number of kit options that contain other components.

Kit options can range from basic logs (wall package), to weather-tight package (roof, doors, windows), to near-turnkey package (flooring, interior walls, porch, trim).

Prices increase as the amount of materials becomes greater.

Because every log home company structures their kits differently, attempting to compare costs between companies often becomes very difficult. Unless you can do an item-by-item comparison of the contents of different log home kits, a true price comparison is almost impossible.

This is where we like to work with the client on a one to one basis for each individual log home this way there is transparency right from the start and no hidden extras that pop up on site.
